The Dix Range is a range of mountains in the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks, southeast of Mount Marcy and the Ausable valley, in northeastern New York State. The Dixes are named for John Adams Dix, then Secretary of State under New York Governor William Marcy, later Senator, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, and New York Governor. [1]

October 8, 2021 The Dix Mountain Range is another EPIC traverse apart of the the Adirondack 46er Challenge. These peaks are located in North Hudson and Keene, New York in the Adirondack Mountains. This range includes 5 AWESOME peaks, which all have AMAZING views of Elk Lake and the surrounding mountains.

The Dix Range is on the southeastern edge of the Adirondacks and comprises five mountains: Macomb, South Dix (Carson), Grace, Hough, and Dix. In terms of elevation, Dix is the sixth highest of the 46 high peaks at 4,857 feet. Macomb is 21st at 4,405 feet, Hough is 23rd at 4,400 feet, South Dix is 37th at 4060 feet, and Grace is 42nd at 4,012 feet.

Dix is the namesake and main attraction of the Dix range, which also includes four other 46ers, . If you're really looking for a challenge you can go in for all five in one trip, although for anyone who's not experienced (or in very good shape), it will require a night of camping. Trail Stats:

Dix is a very tough hike with steep terrain, exposed sections and very long distances. The views from Dix are some of the best in Northeast including views of the Green Mountains in Vermont. They say on a super clear day the White Mountains of New Hampshire can be seen off in the distance.
